Ninety-Two Nobel Laureates Call for Urgent Action to Stop Executions in Iran

In a landmark show of international solidarity, 92 Nobel Laureates from across the fields of Peace, Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, and Economics have issued a joint appeal to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, urging immediate action to halt the escalating wave of executions and repression in Iran.

The statement warns of worsening human rights violations, including the execution of political prisoners and the mass arrest of protesters, stressing that international silence only emboldens further repression. The laureates call for an immediate moratorium on the death penalty, the release of political prisoners, unrestricted international monitoring of Iranian prisons, and stronger international measures linking relations with Tehran to an end to executions.

Rejecting both war and dictatorship, the signatories affirm that Iran’s future must be determined by its people through a democratic republic founded on freedom, human rights, gender equality, secular governance, and the abolition of the death penalty. They also express support for the democratic opposition coalition’s roadmap for a peaceful transition based on these principles.

The statement was issued ahead of the #100KFreeIranRally in Paris, reinforcing growing international support for the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and democracy. APA ICE members actively contributed to mobilizing this broad international endorsement.
