A major conference on April 16, 2025 in the Italian Parliament in Rome urged a fundamental shift in Europe’s approach to Iran. The event, titled “The Third Solution to the Iran Issue,” condemned appeasement and called for support of democratic change led by the Iranian people and the organized Resistance.
Senator Giulio Terzi, former Foreign Minister and current Chair of the Senate Committee on EU Policies, dismissed the myth of “moderates” in Tehran, pointing instead to the regime’s continued use of torture, executions, and deceit—including its covert nuclear activities first exposed by the Resistance in 2002.
Senator Gisella Naturale emphasized the moral duty of democratic nations to defend human rights, condemning the sharp rise in executions and expressing solidarity with Iranian women in the Resistance. She reiterated her and her colleagues’ commitment to universal freedoms.
Senator Raffaele Speranzon called Europe’s diplomatic engagement with Tehran a dangerous illusion. “This is a regime that masks persecution with false openings,” he warned, urging support for regime change.
Senator Marco Scurria described Iran’s regime as a global threat, citing its ties to Russia’s war on Ukraine. He stressed Italy’s responsibility to stand with the Iranian people and take concrete steps to isolate the regime internationally.
MP Emanuele Pozzolo condemned the regime’s brutality, particularly the execution of youth and women. He advocated for the IRGC’s designation as a terrorist entity and endorsed stronger recognition of the NCRI as a democratic alternative.
The conference closed with a collective pledge to intensify Italian and EU support for democratic change in Iran.
