Thousands of Iranians and political and social figures gathered in Paris on February 8 to mark the anniversary of the February 1979 revolution that overthrew the Shah of Iran.
In the first part, demonstrators gathered on Place Denfert-Rochereau to hear a Ukrainian delegation, several groups of young Iranians and representatives of Iraqi associations from all over Europe. They also heard from a Ukrainian and a Syrian delegation. The crowd gave a very enthusiastic welcome to Mrs. Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran. The French mayors, who had come to express their solidarity, were of course warmly applauded, as were personalities such as Guy Verhofstadt, former Belgian prime minister, Ingrid Betancourt, Mahnaz Salimian, secretary of the CNRI, Kak Bab Sheikh Hosseini, leader of the Khebat party of Iranian Kurdistan, and Zinat Mir Hashemi, CNRI member and editor-in-chief of Nabard-e-Khalgh.
After the speeches, a huge procession marched to the Place Vauban, thrilling the streets of Paris with cries of “Down with the tyrant, be he shah or mullah” and “Neither shah nor mullah, democratic republic”.
Here are photos and videos of the event.
