Australia Conference Commemorates 2019 Iran Uprising, Advocates for Freedom

On November 16th, a conference occurred at the Australian Parliament in Canberra, organized by the Australian Supporters of Democracy in Iran to mark the fourth anniversary of Iran’s November 2019 uprising. The event brought together representatives from various political affiliations in the Australian Parliament. Its goal was to commemorate those who lost their lives in the nationwide uprising and condemn human rights violations and regional interventions by the Iranian clerical dictatorship.

Distinguished speakers included Senator Matt O’Sullivan, Senator David Shoebridge, MPs Rowan Ramsey and Susan Templeman, and Peter Murphy, along with representatives from Iranian communities and Iranian doctors in Australia.

MP Peter Murphy, Co-Chair of the Australian Committee of Democracy Supporters in Iran, highlighted Iran’s role in regional instability, citing the government’s support for terrorist proxy forces in Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. He expressed concern about escalating executions within Iran and called for international support for the Iranian people’s demand for a democratic republic.

Senator David Shoebridge highlighted the deteriorating conditions in Iran and the Middle East, attributing them to terrorist groups supported by the Iranian regime. He called for opposition to brutality and an end to such conditions in both Iran and Gaza.

Senator Matt O’Sullivan reiterated the coalition’s support for Australian government sanctions and proposed additional measures against Iranian regime leaders. He advocated for designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, reducing diplomatic ties with Tehran, and expressed solidarity with the Iranian people.

MP Rowan Ramsey advocated for imposing robust sanctions against the Iranian regime and discussed potential amendments to Australian laws to enforce sanctions against the IRGC. He hoped for progress in this area by the year’s end.

Dowlat Nowruzi, the NCRI Representative in the UK, expressed gratitude for collective concern about Iran, emphasized the importance of addressing crises involving Iran and the region, highlighted ongoing nationwide uprisings, and called for the revival of six UN Security Council resolutions. Additionally, he advocated for comprehensive sanctions against the Iranian regime.
