International Conference in Paris Explores Effective Western Policy Options for Iran Amid Popular Uprising

Distinguished politicians and national security experts from both sides of the Atlantic gathered in Paris on June 30 to exchange views and analyses concerning popular uprising in Iran and the need for an alternative and effective Western policy toward that country. Against the backdrop of nationwide uprisings that have challenged the power dynamics between the Iranian people and the state, these demonstrations have provided valuable insights into the aspirations of the majority of Iranians. Consequently, the international community now has a better understanding of their desires. However, the clerical regime has responded to this perceived threat to its survival with a complex and multifaceted disinformation campaign aimed at creating the illusion of successfully crushing dissent both domestically and abroad.

The conference featured four distinct panels, each shedding light on different aspects of the truth surrounding the clerical rule, its alternative, and the necessary approach for the free world. The panel titled “Disinformation and Its Impact on Western Policy on Iran” included esteemed participants such as former FBI director Louis Freeh, former leader of the Canadian Conservative Party Candice Bergen, former US Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Amb. Lincoln Bloomfield Jr., British MP Steve McCabe, and former British MEP Struan Stevenson. These experts delved into the disinformation campaign orchestrated by the Iranian regime and its implications for Western policy on Iran.

The next panel brought together notable figures, including US Senators Joseph Lieberman and Robert Torricelli, former Canadian Minister Tony Clement, former US Vice President’s Chief of Staff Marc Short, and former White House Director for Public Liaison Linda Chavez, to discuss “The Alternative.” This panel focused on exploring the necessary qualities and strategies for a viable option that can effectively address the situation in Iran, considering the aspirations of the Iranian people.

Former US Attorney General Judge Michael Mukasey, former U.S. Policy Planning Director Amb. Mitchell Reiss, former U.S. Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Amb. Robert Joseph, and former Deputy US European Command Gen. Chuck Wald joined forces for a panel discussing “The Right US Policy on Iran.” They examined different policy approaches and aimed to identify an effective strategy for dealing with Iran.

The conference also dedicated a panel to examining European policy on the same topic. Renowned figures including former German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier, former Finnish Minister Kimmo Sasi, MP and former Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis, British MP Bob Blackman, and former Vice President of the European Parliament Dr. Alejo Vidal Quadras shared their perspectives and insights.

The event served as a platform for in-depth discussions, allowing experts to analyze and address the multifaceted issues surrounding the Iranian regime and its alternative. By exploring various policy approaches and understanding the impact of disinformation, the conference aimed to foster informed decision-making and effective strategies in dealing with Iran. The insights and recommendations generated during the conference will be valuable resources for policymakers and stakeholders seeking to develop a comprehensive and impactful Western policy on Iran that aligns with the aspirations of the Iranian people.
