US House H.Res.1148 Condemns Iran Regime’s Terrorism

House Resolution 1148, introduced on April 16 in the United States House of Representatives, marks a significant bipartisan effort with 145 co-sponsors. This resolution serves as a robust denouncement of the Iranian regime’s diverse transgressions, encompassing terrorism, regional conflict escalation through proxy warfare, internal repression, and support for the Iranian Resistance, including Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan endorsed by the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

The resolution highlights the United States’ acknowledgment of the heightened importance of addressing the pervasive instability in the Middle East, especially since the October 7, 2023, attacks. It underscores deep concerns regarding Iran’s active propagation of Islamic fundamentalism and its backing of terrorist groups and proxy entities across the region.

Furthermore, House Resolution 1148 stresses the necessity for Western nations to hold the Iranian regime responsible for its actions, which foment violence, terror, and unrest. It condemns Iran’s extensive support for proxies in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Gaza, and other regions, as well as its escalating hostilities against American forces and global maritime routes.

Additionally, the resolution highlights the regime’s systematic suppression of internal dissent, exemplified by its brutal crackdown on protests and severe human rights violations against ethnic and religious minorities.

It acknowledges the Iranian people’s rejection of monarchical dictatorship and religious tyranny, evident in their protest slogans, and recognizes their aspiration for change by challenging the power centers of the IRGC and Supreme Leader. The resolution also sheds light on the role of Resistance Units in nationwide protests, particularly since 2022, despite the regime’s relentless crackdown on dissent.

Furthermore, it denounces the Iranian regime’s pseudo trials of long-standing members of the Iranian Resistance in absentia, designed to justify terrorist schemes and quash dissenting voices. Additionally, the resolution highlights the global endorsement of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for Iran’s Future, which advocates for fundamental rights, fair elections, and a nuclear-free Republic of Iran.

Emphasizing the inherent right of the Iranian people to self-determination, as outlined in international law, including the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the resolution urges the United States Government, alongside Albania, to ensure comprehensive protection for Iranian political refugees residing in Camp Ashraf 3. This includes safeguarding their rights as outlined in the Geneva Convention of 1951 and the European Convention on Human Rights, encompassing the right to life, freedom, property, as well as freedom of expression and assembly.

In this crucial assembly, bipartisan voices echoed in unity, expressing solidarity with the Iranian Resistance and the ongoing struggle of the Iranian people against the clerical regime. They stressed the immediate necessity to dismantle a regime responsible for sowing discord and devastation across the Middle East, while subjecting its populace to prolonged anguish and apprehension.
