Luxembourg’s Democratic and Liberal Youth Issue Open Letter in Solidarity with Iran’s Youth

The Democratic and Liberal Youth of Luxembourg (Junk Demokraten) has issued an open letter expressing its solidarity with the young people of Iran and their ongoing struggle for freedom, democracy, and human rights. The statement condemns decades of repression under both the former monarchy and the current clerical regime, highlighting the systematic use of executions, arbitrary arrests, and violence against young protesters. Reaffirming the Iranian people’s right to determine their own future, the letter calls on the international community to adopt a firm policy toward Tehran and to support the Iranian people’s aspiration for a democratic, secular republic based on universal human rights.

Open letter to Iranian youth

The violation of fundamental rights in Iran reaches its extreme through the systematic use of the death penalty, employed as an instrument of repression intended to instill fear. The execution of protesters, young people, and sometimes even minors clearly illustrates a serious attack on freedom of expression and the right to life.

As in every country, young people embody joy, innovation, and hope. They aspire to advance society, to dream, to realize their ambitions, and to build a future in a country where the system allows them to grow up peacefully. A country’s future depends on its ability to offer genuine opportunities to its youth, shaping them into free and engaged citizens.

However, this is not the case. The corruption and oppression perpetrated by the  mullahs ‘ regime , This regime, which confiscates freedoms, leads to a generation of young people deprived of opportunities and liberty. Access to free education, decent employment, and participation in political life is severely, if not completely, compromised. Consequently, they no longer have the chance to fully envision a peaceful future, as this regime weighs heavily on their past, present, and potentially their future.

Courage —this word perfectly describes the defining characteristic of Iranian youth. Since 2019, they have tirelessly been at the forefront of protests against the regime, embodying the very lifeblood of a country yearning for change. The massive and courageous mobilization of this generation commands respect and admiration. Faced with the repression of a regime on its last legs, many of these young people have been arrested, imprisoned, or even executed. Consider, for example, Hamidreza Rouhi, 21, and Sarina Esmaizadeh, 16, who were shot dead during demonstrations. The  mullahs  ‘ repressive regime not only jeopardizes their personal futures but also the possibility for young people to achieve a more stable future in Iran.

The Democratic Youth (Junk Demokraten) strongly condemn all human rights violations and the execution of young Iranians. We stand with Iranian youth and fully recognize their right to self-determination, to shape their own future, and to establish a democratic and secular state based on universal human rights principles. We also recognize their legitimate aspiration to live in a free, democratic country that respects fundamental freedoms. It is now clear that neither appeasement nor  war has been a solution to the mullahs’ regime

We call on the international community to adopt a clear and firm position in their relations with the Iranian regime.
