BARONESS BOOTHROYD

MARYAM RAJAVI: BARONESS BOOTHROYD, A GREAT FRIEND OF THE IRANIAN PEOPLE

My heart goes out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Baroness Boothroyd. Her loss is felt keenly by the British people and Parliament, especially by those in the Parliamentary British Committee for Iran Freedom and the International Committee of Parliamentarians for a Democratic Iran. Baroness Boothroyd was a paragon of courage, nobility, and unwavering commitment to freedom. Her remarkable forthrightness and passionate spirit never failed to inspire me.

Baroness Boothroyd deemed the massacre of political prisoners on Khomeini’s fatwa as one of the most heinous unpunished crimes since World War II. She firmly believed that justice would one day be served for the victims of this tragedy.
She always advocated for women’s rights and in the last call I had with her, she was thrilled with the sacrifices made by Iranian women and youths. She wished for the victory of Iran’s courageous youths and freedom fighters in the streets.
She always called on the UK government to stand on the right side of history and recognize the Iranian people’s struggle to overthrow the clerical regime and the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

Britain has lost a remarkable voice, and the Iranian people and Resistance have lost a cherished and unforgettable friend. Baroness Boothroyd’s unwavering support for the vanguards of freedom and combatant women during one of Iran’s darkest periods will etch her name in the annals of Iranian history. Her legacy as a champion of human rights will continue to inspire generations to come.
