Members of the Iranian community in France celebrated Persian New Year, Nowrouz on Sunday, March 27, in Taverny, north of Paris.
Iranian singer and musician, Marjan and Hamidreza Taherzadeh, performed in this event which attracted particularly the attention of French participants in the event.
'Amu Nowrouz,' the Iranian version of Santa Claus, made an appearance at the event.
Displays and artefacts were also put up about ancient Persian culture and traditions.
There was also a traditional Haft-Sin table, found in Iranian homes at the time of Nowrouz.
Haft-Sin or the seven 'S's is a major tradition of Nowrouz. The Haft-Sin table includes seven specific items starting with the letter 'S' (or Sin in the Persian alphabet). The items symbolically correspond to seven creations and holy immortals protecting them. The Haft Sin has evolved over time, but has kept its symbolism.
